Germany will fight illegal immigration more effectively
The German federal police will gain new powers in relation to the fight against illegal immigration and deportation
In order to break down gangs involved in smuggling people across borders, federal police officers will be able to operate under cover. Increasing the powers of federal policemen will be associated with a reduction of these powers in the case of local-government policemen. The extension of the powers of federal policemen resulted from the fact that the local police failed to cope with the increased influx of immigrants that has taken place in recent years. Another change was caused by the case of Anis Amri, who, despite the deportation order, managed to carry out a terrorist attack in Berlin in 2016 in which 12 people were killed. Policemen will also be able to use modern stun guns and a life-saving shot in a terrorist situation.
